This was kind of our slow day. We didn't plan a lot, because we were all tired. I am not sure how to rest on vacation when we aren't at the beach :)
Our list was short...the Aquarium!
Chloe was excited to "pet" the animals in the touch tank. Rays are super cool to watch! If Chloe were a water animal, that's what she would be :) Really social animals who love to greet everyone.
We spent a lot of time watching the penguins. They were so cute! There were even a couple Rockhopper penguins with eggs. I thought that all penguins kept their eggs on their feet, but these make small nests and the parents take turns incubating. There was a small standoff between the male to the right of the nest and the male to the left.
This was different than penguins we have seen at zoos. The others we have seen are in very cold rooms where you really don't want to hang out a long time. All of the penguins here were warmer weather penguins, so the room was a normal temperature...the water was just cold.
Then there was this toad. The biggest toad in the world. I am not sure what to compare his size to. Perhaps Adam could have held him in two hands. Maybe the size of a cantaloupe. All I could think was, I sure hope the tadpoles we have at home do NOT turn into that!

Autumn really wanted to see a big shark. I don't know why. That was just what she was focused on. Unfortunately, they are kind to animals and sharks are too big for a tank :) They did have some species of small sharks, but she wasn't very impressed. In the largest tank, there was a hammerhead and I think she was satisfied with that. It is amazing, to me, how many different kinds and colors of fish there are!

We watched 2 sea lion shows. Sea lions and seals are very entertaining. Plus we got to watch them eat! Little octopi and squid and fish! We had not seen sea lions and seals together and did not know the difference. Sea lions are bigger and they walk differently than seals. The fur seals were adorable!

This was the big tank with the hammerhead inside. He was too fast and camera shy :) Below is Myrtle the Turtle. She was ginormous. Maybe she could have sat on our kitchen table.

After we were done at the aquarium, we went to the Boston Public Library. All of us seemed to need some quiet, alone, down time. The girls used the computers there. Adam read some news and I went on a walk to the running stores nearby. I was in search of a Boston running shirt, however when I actually got ready to pay $50 for a shirt with the word Boston on it...I left it behind. When I got back, we took a quick walk around the library. This library was built in 1848 and was the first large free library in the US. So it had some pretty neat characteristics.
Pizza! Dirty Water Dough Co. Strange name all right! Yes...we got too much :) Does anyone not like pizza for breakfast though?? Adam and I just wanted something different than the sausage and pepperoni the girls wanted. However, the sausage was probably the favorite. On the right was enchilada pizza. Sounds weird, I know, but it got raving reviews on Yelp. It was a bit strange, but good.

Oh wow. WOW! What a beautiful building! It made me forget all the comments I was going to make about the aquarium. LOL This sounds like a really good and interesting day for a down time day! Love the pizza of course. :)
