What do you look for in a house?
I realize there is NO SUCH THING as a perfect house. Something I read recently said, " If the house is livable and you have a good life, then you will be happy with whatever house you end up buying. If you spend more money on a “better” house, then you will quickly get used to it and will be no happier than if you had bought an “average” house. It’s just a house. The people inside are what make it special."

These ladies and my honey will make any home special. When joy, laughter, and love fill a space, how can I ask for more?! Chloe is currently working on the memory verse, "as for me and for my house we will serve the Lord." Such precious words coming from her little mouth and oh, how I pray her "training up" has that result.
Hopefully, within the next 2 years we will be buying a different house. I think, by then, our family will have outgrown this one. We also really like to entertain and our current one is not really suited for large groups. So, I am trying to make a list of things we NEED in our next house. We've learned a lot about what we DON'T want from our current house :) So far, my list of things to look for in our next house is pretty basic. We want an open floor plan in the living areas, a porch/large deck/sun room, a yard suitable for children and a dog, and a bonus room. It would be great if we could move closer to our congregation and to Adam's work as well. What do you love or not love about your house?

I love that our kitchen is open to the living room! I wish we had more closet and attic space, and a bigger pantry!
ReplyDeleteThe number ONE thing we dislike about this house is that the kitchen is not open to the rest of the house. Storage is always a plus, but I am getting pretty creative in that area :)
ReplyDeleteA separate laundry room is at the top of my list. I do not ever want the laundry in the kitchen again!
ReplyDeleteI DESPISE hard wood floors. HATE THEM. I have also found that light colored tile in the kitchen show messes really bad. I have found that most things are tolerable. Our kitchen is not open to the rest of the house but it very large so that isn't an issue (probably the size of ur kitchen and dining room combined) Everything else is okay in my opinion. Of course, there are things I would prefer but its so much better than anything else I've lived in I don't complain :-)
ReplyDeleteOur laundry room in the garage is a pain, that's for sure! I definitely at least prefer it indoors. The best laid plans I think are to have it off of the master bedroom.
ReplyDeleteAdam really likes hard wood floors. I like them with rugs...mostly because we sit on the floor a lot :)I hadn't thought about having to sweep so much more though.
I love our open floor plan and my laundry room! We even have a seperate tool room for all of Tim's tools! LOVE IT! I think your list is great!
ReplyDeleteWell with a 4 year old that lives to be outside, sweeping every day is pretty much a must. However, our back yard is almost entirely dirt so that adds to it. I'd much rather vacuum than sweep....BUT it is easier to clean up messes on wood :) And not liking the garage laundry here either. Just about anywhere else would be great for me!
ReplyDeleteI am liking the wood floors. I dust mop once a week and that takes care of most of it. Of course I don't have small kids at home, but my one big one is certainly messy enough! lol But I also have carpet in the living room so that might make a difference too.
ReplyDeleteoh yea... storage... lots of closets, attic space and storage.
