Oh my, the energy!

I guess moms grow accustomed to the amount of energy they expend daily and don't notice all the work they do on a daily basis until feeling under the weather and are struggling to keep up with the little ones.  We have taken a couple of days and rested at home.  Well, I have...I'm not sure the girls have rested any more than usual, they have still been bounding about pretty normally.
In order to force myself to stay home, we have to wear old, ratty, comfy clothes that I don't want to be seen by the general public.  I love to GO, but we want to discourage germ sharing as much as possible!  We did venture out to Home Depot in our sweats because I didn't think anyone would notice there (I just crossed my fingers that the What Not To Wear people were not waiting a midst the tools to accost me!)
Our trip to Home Depot was inspired by my extra thinking/list making time while I have been lazing about.  We are striving to put our house on the market by the end of March.  Our to do list is quite extensive.  I've been trying to declutter and deep clean at least one small area a week.  I believe I am going to have to increase that goal to be ready at the end of March.  Our big projects are laying bamboo flooring in all of the living space and painting most of the rooms.  Have yet to see if they can just be touched up.  However, there are tons of twenty minute projects.  Back to our Home Depot trip.  One project I was going to tackle this week, was replacing our door bell.  Ours has a hole in the button you push.  I guess I thought there'd be some decorative choices but that they would all generally be the same.  Not so!  Too many choices for my tired mind, so I didn't get that done after all.  Here's a list of some things I have accomplished:
cleaned out herb bed
cut 2 large front bushes drastically back
cleaned out girls closet
decluttered cookbook/microwave corner
deep cleaned bathrooms

What inspires you to buy a house?  I know the general decluttering, clean rules.  Anything else?  I read somewhere to keep in mind that you are selling a lifestyle.  So I need to set the tone of  happiness and simpleness correct?

For those of you who say a blog is not complete without a picture:

  1. Would everyone please tell her we are NOT painting every room? In fact...only ONE room needs much of anything.

  2. I think you should paint every room!

  3. You couldn't decide on a doorbell....but you think you will be able to decide on a paint color for each room....YIKES! I watch these sell your house shows, and it amazes me the reasons people come up with to NOT buy a house. 1)the furniture doesn't really suit the place. Well, the furniture isn't staying so that really doesn't matter. 2) Their decor is a little frieghtening. Again, not your problem because it will be leaving as well. 3)I don't like the color of these walls. Okay, well I get that you don't want to invest a lot of money in a house that you just bought, but guess what! Paint doesn't cost that much and you don't have to hire someone to do it! 4) This is a weird space, I wonder what we could put there? Umm...call me crazy but you don't have to decorate BEFORE you move in. If all your stuff will fit, consider the weird space an added bonus!

The things that will cause me to buy a house, or not buy it for that matter. Size. Both the yard and the inside. And lets face it. You have what you have and you can't really add to it. So, with the yard I think if you show the various things you can do with it, that would be appealing. Also make it LOOK easy to maintain. Not everyone likes to go play in the dirt. If the upkeep isn't easy, it might scare people off. Inside, use all those tricks you hear them talk about to make the rooms look bigger. Decluttering helps but also use mirrors and if you do paint use a color that opens the room. Emphasize the great features of the house....like the door leading to the deck and the deck itself. And I'll tell you....if the front of the house doesn't look inviting, people wont even go in. When we were looking for a house to rent, we drove past this one. I told Q I didn't even want to go inside. The outside of this one looked terrible. Obviously I changed my mind, but a lot of people won't. Just my 2 cents :)

  4. P.S. One lady told her husband she could not buy the house because there was A bug on the floor. ONE.

  5. Adam, we all know how observant you are and that's all I will say about that.
Jason, I knew I could count on you to come help! Any day you are free will be good for us :)
Ellen, I am hoping the yard will look fabulous, but simple. I don't know how to do anything not simple out there anyway. Definitely working on the curb appeal aspect. I think we are going to paint the door black and have lots of white flowers in the beds up there.

  6. 2 more things have been added to my DONE list: My closet has been cleaned out. When I put away the winter clothes it will be even emptier! The flower bed out by the mailbox has been cleaned out.

  7. I have discovered that MOST people do not have the "vision." We (Crystal, Ellen and I) all seem to possess the ability to see what could be, and envision what we can do with a space. But as I said, most people cannot. Most people don't even want to have to bother with painting. Its just too much trouble. They want it READY!

  8. Ahhh, Ninny...you are mistaken! I have NO envisioning skills :) I know there are things I can do and that can be done, but I never know how it will look beforehand.

  9. Even in a new house that might need painting??? Now I admit freely that my visions do NOT always turn out like I see them in my head. But I can spot potential! easily!
